The Explorer’s Junto
Wild tales of harrowing escapes, strange beasts, and amazing cultures were the ultimate explorer’s adventure; told to eager ears back home, an adventurer’s life was a fantasy for generations of regular folk. With the advent of easy air-travel and ever-expanding western culture, mysterious and unexplored lands are practically nonexistent today — the pith hats and stiff British accents replaced by tourism and cruise ships. Relive these stories in this exhibition of rare photographs and drawings from the Age of Exploration.

In this almost abstract illustration by the infamous Theodor de Bry, flying fish are depicted landing on this merchant vessel, far from home off the coast of Brazil.
